The following piece of legislation is also of important relevance:

The Workplace Violence Prevention for Healthcare and Social Workers Act (S.B. 1176; H.R. 2663)

If passed, would protect healthcare workers by mandating OSHA require employers to develop & implement a comprehensive workplace violence prevention plan. 

It passed the House of Representatives last year with bipartisan support! 

Now we need senators in these 13 states to co-sponsor it: 

Nevada, Arizona, Georgia, Hawaii, Alaska,  Virginia, W. Virginia, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Washington, Delaware, Colorado, and Maine.
